Just got word that my Grandfather passed away yesterday afternoon. Because of lack of internet and difficult cell connections,   I wasn't able to get word till now.  News like this is never easy and never easy to be far from home and loved ones.  Despite being half way across the world, I'm praising God for my Grandfather's life.   The night before I left to come to Kenya I spent sitting on the bed in my grandfather's room while he was in his recliner.  We were watching football since it was Thanksgiving.  Before he went to bed that night,  we said goodbye.  I think we both knew it may be our last time seeing each other but was hoping it would not be.  I will never forget the last thing he ever said to me. "I'm so proud of you for all you've done and who you will be come.  Enjoy seeing the world!"

Sending love to my family from all the way across the world.  Granddad, this trip's for you.

I'm currently sitting in my dear friend's house.  The doors are wide open, the sun is shining wildly, and the noises of Africa are in full form.  I only have two and a half days left here.  I can not believe how quickly the time has passed.  13 days ago I was leaving the US and preparing for an unexpected adventure.  Now, at the tail end, I can see how much I needed this trip.  The thing about Africa is that it gets in you.  And stays.  And calls you back.  For those of you who have been, you know.  Its like the most beautiful addiction and yet you aren't the one enabling the return-you can't enable it...it just happens.  There's something special and whimsical about this place.  Despite the frustrations you may feel from things seeming 'backwards' from our western thinking, it is wholeheartedly endearing.  I encourage everyone to visit Africa at some point but I will warn you...your first journey will only be the catalyst for many more.  If you're ready for that, come on over!
