McLeod Family
Fran and her family are some of my favorite people to photograph. They are hilarious, fun, photogenic, and most of all, its like hanging out with family when I am around them. I met Fran a few years back when I first move to Richmond. At that time I only knew her as the "Kitchen Beautician." (She has her own salon in her house, right off the kitchen). Everyone and their mom recommended Fran to me for the best haircut in town. And its true. She is an amazing woman who not only knows how to do a mean hairstyle, but she also really listens while you are sitting on her salon chair. In all, she's wonderful. She also has the cutest dog, Tank. I might be biased since I've been blessed with the title of "Godmother."
The Wolfe Family
I first met the Wolfe's in Kenya. We were neighbors...or...roommates?? Hard to tell when you live in the tiniest apartment which is then divided into two apartments by a steel door between our kitchens. Either way, it was close quarters. Our friendship developed slowly during my first summer in Kenya. We would say hello or borrow sugar and laundry detergent. Soon we were chatting over coffee and Indian food. Sunday afternoons consisted of Andrea and I walking to the markets and exploring what new treasures the Kenyans created. In the evenings, Trevor, Andrea, and I would explore new restaurants around the city and finish off the night watching episode after episode of The Office. That steel door between our kitchens became more of a inconvenience so we left it open while we cooked together and laugh about our days. Essentially, they became family. I remember the day they left Kenya. That was the worst. I helped them pack and shop for last minute gifts at the market. We tried not talk talk about their flights or what time they were leaving. In the evening I got a knock on the door from Andrea who quickly said "Our ride is here. I have to make this quick, or I won't stop crying ." Either way, it was painful.
Hard to believe that was three years ago. Throughout those three years we've talked about seeing each other. Opportunities have come and gone and since they are from a small Canadian town 1,000 miles above the US/Canadian boarder I wasn't sure exactly when we'd see each other again. This fall they moved to a small island (Thetis Island) off of Vancouver Island to attend a bible school, Capernwray. This November, plane ticket prices, time off of work and school finally aligned. As the ferry pulled into their little port, my heart couldn't wait to be reunited with this family. And in those three years, they've added a member, Cruz. He's an adorable little munchkin....whooo, is about to be a big brother this fall!
Wolfe family, I love you guys. So blessed to have you in my life.
