Since moving to Richmond it seems as if everyone down here knows the Templetons... its about time you do too. Meet the Templetons. I have spent the past month working as an intern for Casey. After spending just five minutes with Casey, you discover that he deeply loves his family. Casey and his wife, Ashley, met at James Madison University and have been married now for over three years. Six months ago they added a new member to their family: Lucy Jane. The first thing I noticed about Lucy is how much she smiles. She is such a tiny little thing but don't let that fool you with the amount of joy packed inside her little soul. When Casey asked me to take his family's photos I was stoked, not only for the opportunity to capture his beautiful family, but to be able to spend some time with the always-expressive Lucy Jane. So, without further ado.....the Templetons:
the johnson family.
When I first spoke with the Johnson family about taking their family portraits I knew they would be an energetic bunch. Lisa shared with me all the activities their family loves to do around Burke Lake Park. They really take advantage of the park, especially during the summer. The Johnsons enjoy entertaining performances at the amphitheater, picnics around the lake, exploring the woods, and of course...the train! It was a fun photo shoot and never a dull moment with their three children. We even took photos on the moving train- thats a first for me! If you live in the Northern Virginia area and have never been to Burke Lake Park, hopefully these photos will entice you to visit.
kamata
KAMATA. I'm sure you may be confused as to what the word "KAMATA" means. KAMATA is the name of a suite of girls at James Madison University (home of the Hokie defeating Duke dog...in case you were curious). The name KAMATA is created by the first letters in the names of the 6 girls in this suite...Kimberly-Anna-Meg-Amber-Tina-Abby. There's way more to these ladies than these 6 letters. I had the privilege to spend the weekend with them a few weeks back because one of them happens to be my best friend and my sister. They are so generous and hospitable to anyone who walks through their door. They all met last year during their first year at JMU and have since grown into an amazing friends. Their friendship is based off of two shared loves...their love for the Lord and their love for Klines ice cream (trust me...we went 3 times in 2 days). I enjoyed spending my time with them...hearing them laugh, talking about their days, remembering memories, and encouraging one another. Our photo shoot was so much fun. Not only are they all BEAUTIFUL and know how to throw together drop dead gorgeous outfits, but their love for each other created such precious photos that I was blessed to capture. I hope you enjoy these photos as much as I do! Can I also mention how the colors of the photos remind me of Fall? Its coming...and I'm so excited! In fact, I may be eating a slice of pumpkin pie as I'm writing this post...
Coming soon...
This shoot was amazing. If it wasn't for my slow computer right now, I'd have these photos edited cause they are fantastic...these girls know how to strike a pose! This photo is the perfect one for an intro...spelling out KAMATA (the first initial of each of their names). These 6 ladies are roommates and friends at JMU. Keep an eye out for their full blog post coming soon. (like really soon-crossing fingers....come on computer!).
an unlikely couple
You might say my parents were an unlikely couple. Their story is unique and sweet... one of those stories that makes you marvel at the Lord's plans. I have a feeling when God created my mom and dad He had quite a sense of humor as He paused and said "Watch THIS!"
My mom is often affectionately refereed to by many as "Moonbeam." Yes, you heard that right...my mom was a hippie! On the opposite end of the spectrum, my dad was an F-14 fighter pilot. To think, a hippie met, fell in love with, and married a military officer. Unique enough for you? Just wait, it gets better! Although they both grew up in New York, my parent's didn't meet until later after they found the Lord and both happened to be in the same bible study in Pensacola, Florida. My mom (at this point, no longer a hippie) had taken a teaching job in Florida while my dad was stationed down there for flight school. After a few encounters and small talk at the bible study, my dad asked my mom to hang out one-on-one. Before they knew it, they were a couple. As my dad graduated from flight school, he was reassigned to another flight school...TOP GUN in San Diego, California. Their relationship progressed despite the long distance. A few months later my dad flew back to Florida to visit my mom, got down on one knee, and asked my mom for her hand in marriage. And once again...just to shake things up a bit...the plot thickens!
My mom was unsure if the timing was right for their marriage so after my dad flew back to California she called him and said she was sorry but she had to return the ring and spend time in prayer to seek the Lord for guidance. God guided. He guided her to California and provided a teaching job there so that they could be close together and pray about their future. My dad was certain that my mom would one day be his better half so he knew he had to be patient. They continued to date and pray and seek guidance. During this time my dad found out he was assigned to a Navy aircraft carrier cruise which would take him away for 6 months. My mom and dad decided they should take this time to pray. And pray they did. For the 6 months they were separated they prayed and prayed. They didn't doubt the Lord but knew He would be faithful in unfolding His plan for each of them. When my dad returned and spoke with my mom I believe their conversation went a little something like this...."Hi Tom....I've been wondering...do you still have that ring?" Of course he did. 30 years later...the unlikely flower child and fighter pilot couple are loving life and loving each other as they continue to seek the Lord in all aspects of their life together!
